Lately I have been defending myself on how I run this great club of Hacker members.
· Now no one needs to pay $30 and have me or anyone else yell at them, so just come out and play and do everything I say and we’ll be good! OK? · Just kidding, I’m making a serious effort to not be misunderstood when I yell. Those offended most easily are those who are new to the game. They have never been coached growing up in the sport. They don’t understand two concepts that are unique to this sport. Firstly, the acoustics in a rink are horrible and you have to yell to be heard. And secondly, a hockey coach yells so everyone will learn not just the one player. I encourage you to never take on ice criticism personally. It certainly isn’t meant to be personal. I have had coaches over the past 50 years of playing hockey that have yelled at me and over time I have come to respect and appreciate what they were trying to do for me! · I can count the times I have been angry on the ice in 11 years on one hand! My anger has been over someone being too aggressive. Anger is not good and I have always apologized for my anger after the game. · Hacker Hockey is a great concept. Often borrowed by other guys in the valley even by saying, “Our hockey is just like Hacker Hockey without Frank.” I can assure you that most members would say the games are not the same without me. They are more fun! Ha ha. And that’s not an ego talking. If you can’t stand me, chances are you aren’t even reading this. · Wherever you play, just be sure to play hard and get your money’s worth. · I have yours and our clubs best interest at heart I can assure you! · Thanks to those of you who encouraged me to write this to the members. I appreciate your support. |
